One evening,
we ran into a group of students a short time after visiting their school. Kids. They'll give you the school right off their backs.

Terry and I in our car, as well as the driver of the car the students were in,
were filling up at a local service station.
Spotting us, the students waved as though trying to throw their arms from their bodies,
fueled by the surprise that so many kids experience
upon discovering that their teachers -- and now authors, too! --
patronize grocery stores and use gasoline in their vehicles.
"We go to your school! We go to your school!"
they shouted to us with desperate excitement
as the car they were in pulled away.
